MSP

MD referrals for Premium Assistance patients are no longer required for payment from MSP. However, the MTABC recommends that you provide MDs with clinic notes. Also, have patients check with their extended health plan regarding the requirement for an MD referral.

For Premium Assistance patients, coverage includes 10 treatments per calendar year combined with chiropractic, physiotherapy, naturopathy and non-surgical podiatry.

DVA

  1. If an RMT has a Veteran patient they must call Veteran’s Affairs (VA) at 1-866-811-6060 (option 4), to determine the patients status. They will talk to a VA officer and will be notified of the patient’s status. If the patient is categorized as a B patient, then MSP will pay the Premium Assistance rate and then VA will pay the difference owing to the RMT. (i.e. private rate less $23 paid by MSP). The RMT bills this “difference” through Blue Cross.. To register with Blue Cross, call 1-888-261-4033.
  2. If the patient is categorized as an A patient, then Veteran’s Affairs pays the whole amount, to the RMT, which is set as a maximum of $65 per visit. The RMT still bills this full rate through Blue Cross. The RMT should ask the VA officer for a patient authorization letter which will outline the conditions of the claim and the maximum annual amount. The authorization that an RMT receives is specific to that RMT and that patient only.

GST is 5% as of Jan 2008. Since GST may be reduced in the future, it is probably safer to use the acronym GST rather than a %.
