The Massage Therapists' Association of B.C. (MTABC) is the professional body for the RMTs of British Columbia.

MTABC mandate

The MTABC provides leadership and direction to develop and advance the massage therapy profession by:

• Educating the public, government, insurers and other health professions as to the vital role of massage therapy in health care and wellness for BC.
• Promoting excellence in the science, art and philosophy of massage therapy, and evidence based patient care, education, research and ethical standards.
• Empowering RMTs of BC to provide the highest quality health care services by offering support, information and practical tools.
• Representing its membership before governmental and regulating bodies concerned with massage therapy.

The majority of B.C.'s massage therapists belong to the Massage Therapists' Association of British Columbia (MTABC). With a strong membership, the association negotiates with the Medical Services Plan, the Insurance Corporation of B.C., the Workers' Compensation Board, the B.C. Government and private insurers. The MTABC also gathers evidence on the uses of massage therapy through research projects and the ongoing collection of massage therapy research articles. Other services include our web site, toll-free line and marketing materials.

The MTABC acts as the voice of massage therapy in the province. Through media relations, advertising, publications, the web site and other activities, the MTABC reaches out to the public, health care professionals, politicians and other stakeholders with its message that massage therapy is a vital part of health care in B.C.
